Dubbing
Replacement of the original vocal track. It was standard in Italian cinema of the period; in foreign markets, dubbing could become rewriting.
Definition
In 1960s Italian cinema, all films were post-synchronized. For the atlas, dubbing is a site where meaning can change: rewritten dialogue can change a film’s genre, as happens in «Il telefono».
